Disadvantages of Studying MBBS in mauritius

Studying MBBS in Mauritius is the right decision for many students, especially those from India and nearby countries. The weather is good, the language is English and the fees are more affordable than in the US or UK. But before taking admission it’s important to know the downsides too. Here are some simple words to help you to understand the disadvantages of doing MBBS in Mauritius.

1. Less Practical Training

Mauritius is a small country with fewer clinics and patients which means students may not get enough real life experience with different problems and medical conditions. In countries like India, students see more patients and face more problems and diseases every day which helps them practice better.

2. Tough Licensing Exams

Even if you complete MBBS in Mauritius, you still need to pass examinations like FMGE in India and USMLE in the USA to practice as a doctor. Many students from Mauritius find these examinations difficult to clear because the training may not fully prepare them.

3. High Fees Compared to Benefits

The fees for studying MBBS in Mauritius is around 10,000 to 12,000 USD per year, INR around 8 to 10 lakhs per year. For completing the full course, it can cost around USD 58,000 to 70,000 and INR 50 to 60 lakhs. But the job opportunities and facilities are not as strong as in other countries, so the value for money may not be great.

4. Few Specialization Options

If you want to study further and become a specialist in Mauritius like a surgeon or pediatrician, they do not have many postgraduate (PG) courses. You will have to go to another country and qualify for more examinations.

5. Basic Facilities and Campus Life

Some institutions may not have the latest equipment, labs, hostels or libraries. Campus life can be quiet, and there are not many student activities compared to bigger countries.

Studying MBBS in Mauritius can be the right choice, but you should know both the pros and cons. About your budget, future plans and where you want to work before making a choice. Always do research and if possible talk to the students who are currently studying in Mauritius
